Hot tub electrical done right the first time
Hot tubs draw real power, sit outside in Utah weather, and hold a couple hundred gallons of water with people in it. The electrical has to be done carefully: a dedicated 240V circuit sized to the tub, a GFCI disconnect within sight, proper bonding to prevent stray current, and weatherproof connections that survive winter.
We've wired hot tubs and swim spas across Salt Lake, Tooele, Davis, and Utah counties. We coordinate directly with your dealer (Bullfrog, Hot Spring, Sundance, Jacuzzi, Caldera, and others) so the electrical is in place the day delivery shows up.

Hot Tub Wiring Questions
Hot Tub Wiring FAQs for Utah Homeowners

What size circuit does a hot tub need?
Most modern hot tubs need a dedicated 240V circuit with a 50A or 60A GFCI breaker. Larger swim spas can need 80A or even two separate circuits. We pull the spec from your specific spa's manual and size the wire and breaker correctly.
Do I need a separate disconnect?
Yes. Code requires a weatherproof GFCI disconnect within sight of the tub, between 5 and 50 feet away, not closer than 5 feet from the water. We mount it where code requires and where it's accessible.
Can my current panel handle a hot tub?
Often yes, sometimes no. A 60A spa on a 100A panel can be tight if you already have AC and a dryer running. We run a real load calc before promising you don't need a panel upgrade. If you do need more capacity, we'll quote that too.
How is the wire run from the panel to the tub?
Usually buried 18 inches deep in PVC conduit between the panel and the disconnect, then in a short whip from the disconnect to the tub. We coordinate the trench and backfill with you. Above-ground EMT or LFMC is also an option in some installs.
What is bonding and do I need it?
Yes, code requires equipotential bonding around hot tubs. A continuous #8 copper bonding conductor ties the tub frame, motor, pump, and any metal within 5 feet to a common ground point. This prevents stray current from making the tub a shock hazard.
How much does hot tub wiring cost in Utah?
Typical home hot tub wiring runs $1,200 to $3,000 depending on distance from the panel, trench length, and whether the panel needs work. Swim spas and longer runs cost more. We give a firm written quote after the on-site assessment.
Can you coordinate with my hot tub dealer?
Yes, we do it on every job. We talk to the dealer's installer, confirm electrical specs, and time the install so the spa lands on a wired pad ready to fill.
Do you wire 110V plug-and-play tubs too?
Yes. Some smaller tubs run on a dedicated 20A 110V circuit. They still need to be on their own circuit (not shared with anything else), and they still need GFCI protection. We install those as well.
